Help with a couple of ?s on 16v swap

Help with a couple of ?s on 16v swap

Ok my 16 valve swap is mostly complete except a couple of vacum hoses.

Ok the stock charcol canister on my sammy has 3 hook up points, I know one is a vent line from the fuel tank and the other two are ????? Do I plug these or hook them up some where.

If I can remember I think mine was swaped out for the one off the 16 valve and it only had two lines, one large one for the gas tank and a smaller one that went to one of the solinoids on the front of the engine, will have to check for ya when it warms up a little. 22 deg. out I know put a coat on.
1987,1988,1988,1990 samurai's,  1953 m38a1,  1996 x-90,blue.1996 x-90 red.1994 2 door tracker.   only Dead Fish go with the flow.                No Hairy Nosed Wombats were ran over on the trail today.       My ZUK is Xenophobic.

One of those ports is supposed to go to a tiny solinoid, and from there to a vacuum port on the intake manifold. The solinoid opens breifly at start up to suck the stored fuel vapors out of the canister. Hopefully your 16v came with all that stuff still on it. On the front of the intake mani. there should be a little steel tab bolted on with two baby solinoids. hook it up to the one with the black body, and find the corisponding electrical plug on your new harness and plug that in too. The larger of the three ports vents to the air (a fail safe?) I think, someone wanna' chime in here?

Anyway yes one to the tank, one to the solinoid, then to intake and one to the atmosphere.
Or if you don't have e-testing FUGETABOUTIT!

The 16v canister still has 3 ports, just one is on the bottom (hard to see) and the other 2 are on top.

The one that goes to the intake is the smaller of the 3

Thanks, yep no emissions where im at. I will look when I get off work today. I know exactly what solenoid your talking about. But some assurance wouldn't hurt. Ya my new harness is already installed and aftermarket 4x4 did it for me.

Almost forgot, what about the MAP sensor, I assume the vaccume hose for that plugs in on the back of the intake manifold,thats where I put it , it was the only vaccume port that was left on the intake manifold.

Can you post some pic's of what ya got going? use a pencil or your finger to point at what your talking about hooking up where?

I am running a 1996 16 valve 1.6. The Mass Air Flow sensor does not require vacuum, or the hose obviously. This sensor is located in the duct work between the Air Filter box and the Intake Manifold. It requires three wires, 12 volt (supply), Signal voltage (between 0 and 5 volts when running), and a ground.

My motor does not have a Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor, it uses a Manifold Differential Pressure sensor. This sensor is located on the firewall on the passenger side (here in the U.S.A.) of the vehicle. It does require a vacuum source (a hose). The hose on mine is tapped into the hose supplying vacuum to the EGR solinoid valve(via a T connector), which is mounted on the rear of the valve cover. There is also a very small gasoline check valve in this hose.

IF you don't have inspections there, chuck that dead weight (charcol can)Not necessary, I just popped an inline fuel filter, like the ones you'd put on a lawnmower engine, onto the hose from the fuel tank. Just more crap to muck up the engine compartment
The usual stuff, and 2nd generation Air to liquid intercooled TURBOCHARGER

Ok in the first picture is the sensor on the back firewall,maybe the TPS and not maf or map?
sencond is the plastic t fitting on back of intake manifold, that the sensor is hooked up to(vacum hose)
third is the solenoid on front on intake, what hose goes here.

the black solinoid goes to the canister on top to the small port.

also I just went out and checked the canister in my 94 and the bottom hose is missing so I'm guessing it is a drain just incase you fill the gas tank too much and over fill the charcol canister it just drains out the bottom. I have a 1994 and a 1995 and a 1996  16 valve so if ya need more just let me know which one to look at.
