Sky idler arm?

Sky idler arm?

Who's got one of these and what do you think about it?  Worth the $100 or so?

My stock idler arm is loose and starting to affect it's ability to hold an alignment so I think I'd better start looking for a replacement...and if I'm replacing it why not upgrade?

I couldnt say enough good things about the sky idler.  Eight people in our offroad club are runnin them and I can assure you they are completely indestructable.  8)

Schweet.  If Mike endorses it as indestructible you know it is.


Just because I've now been looking without success...where does one find a stock replacement idler arm...none of the online parts houses even list it?

Try the junkyard.

My issue with installing something that beefy in the steering system is this: It removes the weak point from the system...which means that next time you hit that same rock too hard, it's could be something else that costs more to replace.

I removed all the steering linkages from a wrecked sidekick in a u-pull-it yard, and i kept the idler arm attached.  That's all the tie rod ends, and everything in between.  I'm keeping it for that rainy day if i ever have a problem with any of my parts.

BTW, they only charge $1 per foot of tie rods/drag links, etc at that junkyard, so it was a very good deal.

Bent the stock one ( bentparts!) replaced it with the Sky's, and made up a lower brace. Indestructable and very well made.

For what I do in 4x4...mainly get to work in the winter...it'll be overkill...

...but then the junkyards up here won't sell you the steering wheel horn cover for a buck around here...and I've seen all the Sidekicks/Trackers they have around here...

Better to have too much than not enough.

Not to mention at 170,000 miles or so it's hard to say mine hasn't lived a long life...

DON"T FORGET THE BUSHING!

It's replaceable, cost under $10 for the Moog part, and makes a world of difference if you have wiggle in the idle arm.

but if you are going large tires, then upgrade to Sky arm AND add the Calmini arm brace.

Thanks, I didn't know that, and probably wouldn't have thought to replace the bushing first.

I changed the one on Wifey's, and all the slop in it went away.  Rock Auto has them for $8.
