I think a baja version of a sami with a vw 1.6 desil would be an interesting build up IMHO

That would be interesting but I think it would be very hard to make that competitive. Great ideas though... keep 'em coming!

do bikes count or only suzuki car/trucks

Iv seen a few 450 turbo busa

or maybe a tube chassi busa powered car like thing

Ok, I'll give a few more details. If we do a land speed record attempt it would be at Bonneville next year and it would be in a Swift GT that we have been using for a mini-stock Circle track racer for several years. We'd do some redesigning of a few things on the car and then go for it.

They have only a couple of 4wd vehicles grand fathered in. I believe now only 2wd is alowed.

http://www.scta-bni.org/

The Suzuki Swift we'd run would be in the G or H engine catagory

G   93 thru 122ci 1.51 to 2.00 L
H   62 thru 92ci   1.01 to 1.50 L

...and the car would probably be GAS COUPE and SEDAN - /BGC, /GC unless we went back to a stock 1.3 twin cam engine and then I think we could get a PRODUCTION COUPE and SEDAN - /PRO (Gas Only ) but because Suzuki called it a GT we may get a GRAND TOURING SPORT - /BGT, /GT (Gas Only) rate.

All of these variables equal different MPH/Speed records.

2007 record runs for "in the ball park" vehicles:

TEAM                                     ENGINE     Vehicle        OLD           NEW RECORD

Being a Newbie I don't have much say but I'd like to see an adventure vehicle lifted, with tons of racks, lights and a VW multi-fuel diesel conversion. Being a survival-mined person, an "end of the world, bugout, last vehicle you'll ever need" would be fun. and a matching trailer to carry spare fuel/parts/gear/food.

Interesting. So your "adventure vehicle" would be a Samurai based one, I assume. The idea of "end of the world, bugout, last vehicle you'll ever need"  is an interesting one. For discussion's sake, we're leaning towards building a Second or Third generation Grand Vitara as the 'adventure vehicle'. I'm not sure that the VW 4-cylinder would have enough power. Diesel is a good idea though. I wonder if there are other options for a GV chassis, Mercedes... 4-cyl Cummins?

I did the VW 1.9 TD install into my LWB Samurai 2 years ago and it was the best motor swap I've ever done. I have been toying around with the idea of installing a diesel into my current GV adventure build. I've looked into importing a half cut GV diesel but haven't had any luck yet. Now I'm thinking maybe VW TDI if I can find someone that can figure the wireing issue out.
I think the Cummings and Mercedes motors will be too heavy. Another option would be the Isuzu 2.2 turbo from the Trooper.

I was just talking the other day about wanting to see you do a Grand Vit adventure build.  A vehicle designed from the ground up to explore the back country and allow quick and easy camping and cooking out of for a couple of weeks on the road and trail.

Maybe an integrated tent into the tailgate... Or a swing out cooking area built into the tailgate and a bed in the back so you don't have to setup a tent?  If you do the matching trailer setup you should go with a military hitch to get more flex out of it.  :)

The Isuzu 2.2L only had 62 hp, so even with the extra torque it might not be enough motor for a Grand Vit.  Is the V6 really that underpowered for the vehicle?

I'm talking about the 2.2 turbo Isuzu.
The V6 is ok, I'm just a diesel guy.

Suzuki based Rat Rod

I have a friend with a clean Sammy body and frame, and a cousin with a Mustang convertible with a 302 in it..  I must say the rat rod idea was tempting.   ;D

Looks like adventure vehicle is in the lead but don't let that stop you from voting if you'd like to see one of the other options!

Thanks, Eric

I'm totally down for a Zuki land speed record attempt, but that whole frontal mass thing is probably going to hold back even the slipperiest Sammy. I think the guys out there last year in a  rear drive 1300 Hayabusa powered Metro with gun slit windshield is going to take you.  Seems like the Camel truck thing is sorta what many of us are attempting with our own rigs, so on to BAJA!

Or my other vote "Moon Rover Suzuki"-- Something like Fully independent computer controlled self leveling Air shocks (Land Rover sourced?) Just thought I'd throw it out there.
