Water leak..cant find it! *help*
« on: August 12, 2007, 10:21:32 AM »
Im going crazy! The problem is that my GV leaks water in heavy rain.
I cant find out where its coming from!

The carpet on the drivers side always gets wet. I´ll try to explain where i think it comes from.
It´s the drivers side front corner...About where you would rest your left foot while driving... where the fuse box is..
It´s like it comes down there and goes under the carpet

Has any one had this problem or even have a clue?

It is located near the center under the dash , in order to gain access you have to remove the instrument panel . It is a pain in the as :-X . Sorry i have no pics to help you . But in my opinion only a service manual would really help   ::)

Does you mean the heater matrix?

Why should water leak from that only when it rains?

It leaks only when it rains, the car stands still in the parking lot not even running

Off hand, I can really only think of two places where there are holes in the body to the outside in that area.

1) In the door jamb near the hinges, there's a connector for the door wiring (power windows/locks/mirrors/speaker).  Check that and make sure it's fully seated.

2) The firewall has holes for the steering column, brake plunger, clutch, cruise cable, etc.  Check to make sure all those are secure.

Otherwise, the seal around your windshield could be leaking, I suppose.  Open the hood and have someone hit everything in the area with a garden hose, pull the carpet back and see where the water runs.

If I remember right there's an issue with these things and the fresh air ducts.  They fill with crap, the drains plug, and rain water, etc backflow into the heating ducts.  Might want to try and see what's in the air ducts...

Also try your windshield seals...my Tracker's are pretty gnarly looking and I'm sure that's where the water is getting into my cab from.

I think i found it...

The previous owner but á power cable through the firewall...through a little rubber hole...but he didnt seal it..it think when the water runs down the firewall it stops on the cable and runs through...

I sealed it and im going to spray water on it tonight and see if any water comes through...

Thanks for all the AMAZING help you guys!
