Throwout bearing or throwout bearing assembly?
« on: July 19, 2007, 05:40:14 PM »
Autozone quoted me 14.99 or so for the throwout bearing and 42.99 for the throwout bearing assembly. They would have to order it in. I didn't know there was a difference. Neither did the guy at the store. What is the difference and how do you know which one you need ??? ???  I would like to get away with the lesser if I can. It's on a Samurai. >:D

Sounds like the auto parts store sells the assembly which includes the pickle fork or whatever it's called. I guess lever and all. They try to act like you can't get the bearing itself so they can charge you over $40.00 for the whole assembly even if you just need the bearing! >:D >:D >:D

At a guess I would say that the pickle fork thing fits into an assembly consisting of the bearing and a carrier.

I picked up the bearing and took it home last night. Opened it up this morning and I don't know what the hell it is. :o :o :o  It won't even fit in the carrier and I don't know how you would get the carrier off the old bearing. ??? ??? ???  I  have an extra throwout bearing with carrier so I guess I better investigate this. The bearing they sold me doesn't resemble any part of the throwout bearing I have so it's going back.

If I'm going to pay over $40.00 for a throwout bearing I'm not buying it from a  parts store. I'll buy it from one of this site's sponsors ;D ;D ;D

I ordered three different clutch kits from the local auto-parts store for my SJ-410 before I finally just called Hawk Suzuki.  For some reason they got it right the first time.   ;D  I've been using them for anything specialty for the Suzuki's ever since.

I guess I should know better when half the time I inquire about a part, they don't know what a samurai is. They man not even know suzuki makes cars and trucks. That's why they're the parts experts!!!

The local car quest is usually pretty good, but when it comes to anything that is a little off they are really limited by their computers.  They can only order what they think is the right part sadly.
