if you're patient, you could get a full running parts rig for that (or even half that).

If it comes complete with harness, sensors, ECU, etc. then that seems like a fair junkyard price.
SnoFalls is right...you'll always do better by buying a complete rig and selling off what you don't need; I've bought and parted out 5 samis, just to get some spare parts.  In one case, I kept the t-case, one axle, and some body parts and sold the rest of the parts on Ebay for $2000 more than I purchased the entire rig for.

I was quoted that price for an 8V a couple years back. Just hang out and one will come up for a much better price.

If yours has one now and your doing the work yourself just get an esteem engine, say a 1998 or so with low miles, there half the price. you will have to swap the cam shaft or pul your dist gear off of yours and put it on the new one and switch a few of your other parts over to it.

When I got my 8V I found them for a wide range of prices. The most expensive being in my hime town . I ended finding a rebuilt motor with around 30K for less than the local guys. But I had to drive 3 hours to get it. It was worth it though. I saved some green and I got a motor form a reputable yard with a CASH BACK warranty.

Good luck,

wow, seems ike you guys have all the luck....not here, i was amazed when i got an aweasome deal on it, but it was making a ticking noise, this was n.b.d. because i have a truck and a car.....and i totaly was waiting for the engine in the tracker to go.....but this spring i got an offer on my car that i couldnt let down, and am right in the middle of channeling the body down on my little truck, so im stuck bummin rides from people untill i find an engine or buy something new. which i dont really want anything else.

but, on another line, a suzuki esteem has the same motor?? my tracker has the 16v motor from the factory, its a 1995 tracker 2 dr with a 3 speed auto vin 6 mpfi

If your stuck bumming rides, think about it this way. I doubt you will get a good condition motor for much less than $500. Is it worth $300 to wait, keep looking and keep bumming rides till you find another (if you find another one close) that costs less money? Or is the $300 worth driving over this afternoon, picking up the exact motor you need and having your ride back up and running after a day in the shop tomorrow?

what makes you think the $800 motor is "good condition"? Personally I'd wanna hear it run (and or drive).

These motors can last forever with proper maintenance,  but one overheat or oil starved or lack of 60K maint intervals, and they can be toasted pretty quick. So a non-running engine (even with only 90k) doesn;t give me confidence.

I recently picked up a '91 with 120K for $350 (good strong motor+tranny ... trashy body/interior). The deals are out there if you're patient.

A few people over here with 16Vs have fitted a Baleno engine (possibly the same car?) . They just needed to use their original EFI, exhaust set ups and oil pan.

Edit: Wikipedia says its the same car:

Dude did ya read my reply? whats wrong with 150.00 for a newer 16 valve engine?  just change the stuff on it that you need, you have all of the kick parts already. The hardest part is porting the head a little bit for the injectors to clear on the intake ports, just put some paper down in the ports and hit it with a grinder a little bit, it's worth the 600.00 in savings making four little notches on aluminum.
