Socket needed to remove front wheel bearing nut
« on: April 06, 2007, 12:40:11 PM »
What size is the massive nut that holds the front wheel bearings in check? I want to replace my rotors, pads, and repack the bearings but I checked my service manual first and it looks like I need a huge socket to remove this nut.

It's a 1997 Kick btw

If you read your manual, the torque on the front wheel bearings is around 50 psi.  It's a little different from your usual tapered wheel bearings.  The inner and outter races are one piece.

Why are your replacing the bearing?  Are they making noise?  If there not making noise and look ok, just repack them and put them back in.  The bearing race can be a bear to remove and put back in.

Its kinda hard to tourq the wheel bearing nuts down with a punch and hammer.

its a 51 or 52mm socket, i had to turn my down on a lathe to allow it to fit into the inner hub.  When it got turned down, i lost the size it says on it.

i just took a caliper to it and it came out 51.5mm

Hope that helps

Amilla

P.S. I have a samurai, im not sure what kicks and tracks use, possibly the same?

Actaully on the Kicks they use a big socket that has four pins on it.
My lil bro made one for me.
I believe Hawk will sell ya one (runs about 100 bucks) and you can send it back when done and get 75 back.
It has been awhile since I heard that, so I could be mistaken.

do need it for the 94 sidekick? my driver side is making a grinding noise when i turn right, and sqeaky. On another note, with the camber alignment bolt there is a sleve made out of plastic. do you need that? started making noise after i installed them to fix positive camber due to the 2" spring spacer lift
