LWB vs SWB?
« on: January 29, 2007, 04:36:29 PM »
Hey guys, I'm new here on the forum, so let me apologize in advance for the 'stupid' questions that are bound to follow.. ;D

I'm about to move to Thailand, and I'm looking to buy an offroad vehicle there. Since all the fancy new pick-ups are well beyond what I can afford, my choice is somewhat limited. Basically I get to choose between a classic Land Rover, or a Suzuki Samurai. Although I absolutely love Land Rovers, the idea of having to depend on a 40 year old vehicle for daily transportation somewhat knocks me in the more sensible direction..  ;)

Suzuki is still producing the Samurai in Thailand, although over there they're called 'Caribian' or 'Sporty'. Basically, it's just a LWB Samurai, though SWB versions can also still be found. I was wondering if one version was preferable over the other? Besides the extra interior space, does the LWB version have any other advantages over the SWB version? Or would the short version perform better offroad? Any ideas/opinions?

I used to have a LWB samurai, it performed better than my SWB in some aspects, such as hill  climbing and descending, towing, and cornering. But got hung up a lot easier, and was harder in tight trails.
they perform basically the same, in my experience.

i think LWB's are cool in north America, so i'd go for a LWB, but if they are abundant there, then i guess its just whichever you prefer...
