jacking point and jack stand location info needed

jacking point and jack stand location info needed

Ok guys.  this may sound like a novice question.  But I dont like getting under a car without the proper knowledge firsthand.
I just got this 1991 sidekick and have to look at the tranny from underneath.  Its leaking.
But before I jack this thing up and support it I need to know where to lift it from and where to place the jackstands.

When using the factory jack there are grip points on the frame. Lay beside your Sidekick and look at the frame Just behind the front wheels and just in front of the rear wheels. You will see what I am talking about. Typically I would place my floor jacks as close to these as possible untill you learn the best balance points on the vehicle.

thanks for the reply.  I forgot to mention that I use a floor jack.  where can I put this to lift the entire front end up to place the jack stands.

i just lift the front off the ground with a floor jack off that one cross member is right under the motor that the front diff bolts to..... works for me

Same here ;)
But if i'm using the scissor jack to change tires, I  place it under the axle close to the tire, or under the A-arm, this way, you don't need to lift so high  :D

ok sounds good.  I just didnt want to hit a weak point.  Ill try the cross bar then.

jack the vehicle up under the differential. try to stay in the middle for balance. do not get under it without jackstands. put these under the differential on both sides or part of the frame. don't do it without them. you can get them at Harbour Freight or Walmart for like $15, get 2 or 3 ton.

Or go to a local auto parts store (Schucks or?) and buy a set of Plastic car ramps for
20 bucks.
Safer to crawl under your rig with.

ya, i wouldnt trust some of the jackstands i have seen befor.  When you see a 12 gauge metal one, with a dinky cotter pin used to hold the extended part up, you dont really jump with joy to crawl under your rig.  I kid you not i have seen jackstands like that.

Well.  I put it up on the jackstands,  but to tell the truth, I didnt feel safe with the frame only inches from me on those two little points.  So I went and purchased some car ramps. 

More clearance and I feel better being under it that way.

Jackstands are good for doing brake jobs and anything else that doesnt require getting under the car in my personal opinion but thats just me.

I bought my jack stands at autozone for $25 a pair, there thick and durable, had my sami on them for over a year!

if you get good ones, there alot safer then those crappy ramps.  I had ramps bend on me. But it all depends on what you are doing. I also welded rims together and they work good. Had full-size trucks on them. just make sure your welds are good.
