Possible Hard-Top problems [ CONVERTIBLE ]
« on: October 30, 2006, 01:33:24 PM »
HELLO

What are some problems that can occur with age on the SIDEKICK/TRACKER HT? What damage can occur from repeativly removing and installing the top, if any?

THANKS

ummm... Blisters?

Seriously though, the only real potential problems I can see is the top might be more prone to cracking with age when off the vehicle. Just make sure to place the top somewhere safe when it's off and don't put anything on top of it. Make sure it's sitting someplace level so it doesn't warp.
Had a cool sig pic till I changed the text... sigh...

RIGHT

The tops are made of fiber glass and I guess that makes them prone to cracking. So there isnt many issue's of the hardware wearing out? [ like the bolts and things ] Maby seals?

Actually I encounter a problem with the forward hard top (not the big one, the other over the driver's head).

The locking system have somehow weakened with use and the top partially left while I was driving on highway.  It's a little frightning but I managed to maintain it with a hand while driving with the other one!  I suppose something like that can cause an accident, so just check for correct closure of the lock.

Since then, I've replaced the top (by a transparent one, quite stylish actually  8) ) and the locking system.  And, just to be sure, I secure it with a couple of nylon tie-wraps during winter.

About the forward top, no problem whatsoever.  It just have a tendency to leak during big showers but I think its because of the rubber seal who begin to crack along the rear door.
There's a old saying in Quebec who said: "Grosse corvette, p'tite quequette!".  It means "Big cars are for those who have to compensate for a very small wiener".  Therefore, I love my VERY SMALL Zuki!!!

I'll take a couple of pictures tomorrow (if the rain can stop for a couple of minutes!!)

It's simply a normal top but I cut a rectangular opening in it and fit a polycarbonate window inside.  That's it! ;D

Quite simple to do since it's made of ordinary fiberglass.

Sorry, the weather is still awful.  So I can't send any good picture (my camera is really cheap and need a lot of light to work properly).   >:(

I'll send good pictures as soon as possible.   :-\

All I have for the moment is this:
