New Samurai clutch change--- Hard?
« on: September 22, 2006, 04:07:44 PM »
Hi,

My Samurai clutch is startin to go...... how hard is it to replace and what one would you
pick to replace it with?

Secondly, my stock Samurai barely does 40mph uphill with 215x75x15 tires.  What is
the best ( ie. also cheap ) way to boost power??  Its a stock 1.3L motor.  Would a
new exhaust be worth the money??

One of the easiest clutches you will ever change.  A friend of mine did it on the trail, with hand tools.. (well, to be honest, he didn't actually change it, just removed and replaced it... but still...)

Sounds like the lil 1.3 is in need of a rebuild first.. how many miles on it? Does it smoke??  Blowby??

It is quite easy -- I put a Centerforce on my Tracker......I did have to buy a separate clutch pilot tool.

go to autozone and spend $25 for a disc and then when you bring back your old disc you get $8 core charge back, i can change them in about 40  minutes but that is with a rockrat high trans mount. it should take you about 1.5 hours your first time just make sure you grease up the counter shaft first.

Thanks guys,  it sounds like it can't be that bad even though I am not an expert.
Where can I get  the play by play with pics?  As for the engine I do not know how
many miles is on it.....  it goes 68mph  flat out floored on the highway.  It does smoke just
a little but you have to look hard to even see it.  It's my first Samurai so I don't really
have anything to compare it to for power.......

68 isnt bad, make sure you pull your valve cover and check your valve lash and your philips screws on your rockers to make sure they are tight.you should do this 1x per year if it is a daily driver
