emissions reset switch
« on: January 26, 2005, 10:16:26 AM »
Does anyone have a pic of that reset switch on an 89 sidekick?

I look and I look, but I CAN'T find it!

Would pulling the battery cable reset this?  Because if it will, I have a whole nuther prob; for I have tried that already.

This is my first Sidekick/Tracker.  Hell, first foreign car.  I love this put putter.

Thanks
My other car is a Freightliner.

i have alldata and thay dont mention one. i think you read the codes with a fuse and clear them by unhooking the battery for 30 seconds if check engine light comes back on you still have a problem.

the fuse box has a diagnostic fuse slot to pull codes.  I tried it, and was able to get no codes; the check engine light just stayed on. I also have a white connector under the hood.  I tried connecting the terminals per instructions from manual, still nothing.  I pulled the battery cable... same result.  could be a short in the check engine light circuit itself?  Anyone else have this problem? The truck runs fine and passed e-check with the light on. go fig.
thanks

The Check Engine light is also
an idiot light, comes on at regular
milage intervals, just to get you
to take it into the dealer   :P

Just drive, it will go off......... Eventually

Shortly after I bought my '95 I realized the previous owner had removed the bulb for the check engine light cause it stayed on all the time.  I too tried to get codes etc, with no luck.  Took her out and wheeled the crap out of her one day and the light went out.  Maybe you just need to go wheeling!  ;D

I already tried a "power on reset".  The light is still on.  I will try to render a code one more time, but it won't give me anything, i swear!
thanks

Power on reset will not change it.

Between my 91, my 92, and my 2 95 Kicks, the switch was in at least three different locations, but all in the general area of the speaker, in front of your left knee.

On my 91, I pulled the speaker - I think it was just a slide switch in-line, in the harness.  On my 92, it was actually mounted by the speaker.  On my 95's it's mounted in a location, where I can pop the lower trim panel, and flip the switch while I'm driving it.

The light comes on at certain mileage points, and if you don't flip the switch, it'll go back off at the next mileage point (like 80,000, 120,000, 150,000 - I forget, but I know 120,000 is one of them).

You won't get the error codes to flash, unless you have the jumper properly installed in the diagnostic port (and I was surprised to be reminded recently, that the diagnostic port is different between a 93 and a 95).  I carry a paper clip in the glove box for this.

On a buddy's 89 I found it behind the plastic trim piece below the steering wheel. Pop it out and have a look.
