I got the same noise before and after the valves were adjusted. It goes away after the engine gets up to temperature, so on these cold mornings I just pull it out and let 'er idle while I'm packing my lunch box.  I've tried every oil from 5w-30 synth to 10w-40 dino juice and the sound is the same, winter or summer.  Another one of those weird little things, I guess...

(Almost forgot; '91 8V 1.6 with 137K on the clock, currently using Castrol Extended Wear 10w-40, and it's a non-smoker)

All my suzuki's sounded like that. Even my one owner 42k 94 tracker ;).
As we moving with the speed of the robot sonic exhaust
Chronic fumes, fuel, gin, and tonic
Half of the world is corrupt and alive
The other half is depressed and they want to die

mine 90 track 8v, has always sounded like a sewing machine, even with a new motor that had a new head with a calmini cam.  think they just sound that way.  once upon a time i did have a louder intermiten ticking, that was one of the flush philips screws that hold the cam bearing flopping around inside with my rocker arms!!  now thats not good, but also happens to trackers sometimes, so i hear.

Q:  it sounds like you are all saying that thinner oil is better for lifter noise.  then why is Slick 50, which is thick, suposed to help with that too?
