Lurking too long - time to introduce myself and my rig
« on: June 13, 2006, 04:28:16 PM »
Hi there,

I've been lurking and learning here on the forum since I got bit by the Zuki bug back last November. This site is great! When I got my Kick I was really looking for something more ATV sized but used the ones that I wanted were still like 5 grand. My brother had bought this rig a couple of years back to use on his land. He was always talking about how great it was but I had not been down to see it. Anyway, he sold his place so I asked if he wanted to sell the Zuki and the rest is history.

A little bit about the rig, 1996 Sidekick with just over 62K miles. It was wrecked in the front when my brother bought it. He slapped on a junkyard front end. Not sure what year but it had a goofy little world emblem with the tiniest chevy emblem inside that... (it really had to go! no offense meant to anyone still running that emblem..) Oops, got off topic... My brother had the rig sitting outside with the top off the whole time he owned it so it had a few problems from that. Also the tailgate was crunched and the top was falling apart. The headlights only worked on high beam, the radio was shot. Most of the dash cluster was dead - the heat gague, tach, 4wd light and some other things were dead.

On the good side, new 30" mud tires, chrome wheels, ho,e grown 1.5" body lift and not one single speack of rust anywhere. He had also had the seats recovered in black vinal and ripped out the carpet and put beadliner on the floor.

Initial repairs:
- got the instrument cluster working  (partially)
- got the headlights working

My mods so far - in order:
- replaced the top with a Bestop bikini and wind jammer
- pulled the front bumper cover and added 130 watt ProComp lights
- replaced the radio with a CD/mp3 unit
- removed all of the emblems and stickers
- killed that !|removethispart|@#! key buzzer!
- repainted - I owe the inspiration for this to Quaddawg (Hey Quad!) His rig looked so freaking cool in camo green! But there are a couple of them that color on the forum so I decided to go with the 'desert storm' color. Just had to be different.

Mods to come:
- real bumpers
- skid plates
- ARB locker (at least in the back)
- winch
- cage
- more lights LOTS more lights

Sorry to ramble on so long but I've been saving ity since last November.

Here is what it looked like when I bought it:
