I just got my 86 sammy and the tranny is stuck in 3 or 4th gear not sure. The weard thing is it will move when the shifter is in nuetral, if i put the shifter in any gear it locks up. anybody have any idea what is wrong.

I've rebuilt 3 sammy trannies now...so I'm no expert, but I've seen the workings of them a few times.  My guess is bent shift forks.  No matter what it is, that kind of problem will require disassembly of the tranny.  Should be pretty easy to see what's wrong once the case is cracked. 

Thats the beauty of manual transmissions. when you open it up, can definitely see exactly whats wrong without much trouble at all.

Found the problem, needle bearing on the main shaft locked up. Now I just have to find one, any suggestions my dealer can't find them.
