Okay all - I have a watter leak at the back of my engine between head and block (Stock Samurai 1.3L). I can't tell EXACTLY where it is, as the leak is covered up by the intake manifold. It's definately comming from passenger side back (closest to the firewall). There seems to be no watter in the oil (it looks pretty, no muddy brown color), no oil in the watter, and no smoke / steam comming out of exhaust.

I presume this is a head gasket issue (never changed one out before). Should I take the head to a shop to see if it needs to be re-worked from warpage?

I also don't have a manual, so.... how to I torque the head down properly? Will I need a torq wrench, or should I just make shure they are torqued down consistently?

You could be right about the head gasket leak. And you will definitely need a torque wrench. You don't want to just wing it when torquing down your the head.

I am sure that some here probably has the pattern and torque specs.  We have at least one or two people that work on Zuksaround here. 

I would place my vote on the head gasket...

Okay, so much for my el-cheapo "re-tighten the head" fix - those bolts are SOLID. Might need a breaker bar to get them undone...

So, looks like I'm spending $70ish for a new head gasked from Napa, and finding a friend with a torq wrench

Anyone have the torq pattern, and torq specs handy?

By 16v I presume you mean the Trackick 1.6L?  I have the stocker 1.3L.

You would have to remove them to do the
head anyway, so start there and tell us what
you find out

Change your heater hoses 

This brings up a good point... what else should I replace while I'm in there? I'll inspect the spark plugs, replace the radiator hose (should I do upper and lower?), change the oil / filter, inspect the needle and radiator cap, change air filter (it's dirty).

I don't know that I should really replace much else. This Samurai is in EMACULATE condition in the interior (the front and back seats are in great condition, the carpet is pristine, and the rubber on the pedals looks brand-new). She starts up EASY each and every time. Indicated mileage is 63k, and im inclined to believe this thing is in too good of shape to think it's 163k.... but... hard to say hu? Anyway - if you were me, what else would you condider changing out?

check underneath the intake manifold there is a coolant line under there  (was on my 1.6 8valve) figure there should be one on sammy also. mine cracked and leaked all over the place. its a tight fit  and you might not be able to see it so feel for it
