Toyota 22R in to a Samurai?
« on: February 14, 2005, 12:31:26 PM »
Ive seen many kits for different engines for the Samurai, however is there a kit for the Toyota 22R?

I thought I saw one somewhere before.

Already tried searching but came up with nothing.

Wouldnt that engine be a good choice? ???
What pros & cons would there be? ??? :-/

thats a very strong engine, but i don't think you would see a non-zuk engine swap around here very often.

best of luck,

We had a Toy equiped Sami in our club for a while but it was sold. It had the 22-R and complete Toy Driveline put into a Sami.

I looked at this a little but decided that the iron block would change the balance too much for me. I think like offroad.com had a guy putting toy stuff in his sammy. Was a complete write up on it.

Thanks for the input guys.
My current 1.3 is in bad shape and one of my co-workers suggested the 22r as an alternative.

I know you'll be hard pressed to blow a 22r up.  But if it as 22re, when they ingest water it tends to be bad for some reason but the carbs do ok.  I am toying with the idea as I have one and a 2wd transmission, but not until I blow up my 1.3, if thats possible.

i but in a 22re engine W56 tranny and t-case with yota axles under my sammy. Its the best thing scince sliced bread. If you want some good ideas of thing go to pirate4x4, they got more hXc stuff like this over there. i know ill get lynched for saying that here. . .
You can take the Sammy off the trail, but you cant take the trail out of the Sammy.

Ditto. I used to be a toyota guy, and even strongly considered putting a 22R into my sami, but the 22R is one of the heavest 4 cylinder motors out there, and one of the reasons I got the samurai was the light weight. Hopefully I can find a wrecked tracker w/ a 1.6 16v and swap that in. If I was going to stretch it(LWB), then I definately would do the 22R/w56/Twin case w/ toyotas axles.

And I also agree, Pirate has a wealth of knowledge on the 22R swap, just search.
