Mike Whitfield(Whitfield) based his 4-door build on this as well as the S10 IFS drop. He is a member here, but I'm sure he frequents Zuwharrie BBS more. He recently posted a big thread with lots of pictures of his build, but I'm with Mikerpm4x4 on this, I'd just chop and lower the frame an extra 2" as he said, and I think you'd need to lift the engine the same to make up the difference.

Shredder,

That is a well built, and great looking rig!  Your running the boondox 1.5" spacers right?  I have 2" Jeep TJ spacers in mine...Hopefully, it won't give me too much lift that stresses the CV's...I'll let you guys know on Wednesday, when the kit arrives from Calstiffy....I really want that Shrockworks bumper in the front end....I'm thinking shrockworks front end, trail tough rear bumper, and shrock sliders.....Now, if only I could hit the lottery, I'd be set! LOL

Again, nice work on your rig Shredder!

Thanks on the compliment. You might want to let your Calmini springs settle in a little before you add your spring spacers to the mix. When I first installed my Calmini kit I had 4.5" of lift. It took several wheeling trips to break in the springs until they rested at 3" of lift.

And, yes, mine has the 1.5" Boondox spacers all around and their 3" springs in front. I like the ride better that way. Still run the Calmini rear springs though.

finally got a donor. im planning a 2" lift so will probably cut the donor chassis and weld it under my existing. dont want to cut my chassis just yet hehe. has anyone tried or at least attempted this? just want to know the pros and cons.

I believe that a member named Littletruck on here did something similar but I haven't been able to find his write up, maybe someone here knows him and could get the info?

I think it would be really awesome to make suspension arms that are even bigger than calmini and drop the axle more than calmini's brackets do which I heard isn't that hard (the axle drop brackets that is).

I think it would be much easier to do what shredder did and just add the spacers to it, they are only $100 and they are good ones (they better be cause I ordered some last night)  personally, I would drop the axle more and add the spacers and call it good. when you run tires that big on those axles they might not be too happy about it. I believe I saw you said that you've broken the front end a few times. a toyota CV swap would probably be a good idea with 35's. I don't know how much abuse the back end can take but that axle isn't beefy so I'd look into a different rear axle in case it does break

good luck with your project, it already looks good and I see it getting much better in the future

i already did the toyota axle swap. 3rd member and all.  ;D and with the toy 5.71 R&Ps i think it should be good enough to handle 35s.

IMO the thing with spacers is that you would be straining the CVs. with this mod you get to retain the optimum CV angle.

nice that you got the yota swap up front. I bet that's really nice. I was thinking to drop the axle more with the spacers instead of all that frame work. just my opinion on that one but that would be pretty cool to have all that work into it. the frame work would be one more huge thing to set it apart from the crowd

The Calmini kit drops the diff as far as is practical, any further would mean cutting and lowering the crossmember.

Apearently the back one has a flexible bushing or something. once he had it like that I believe he madecardboard templates of new brackets and made them up out of steel. If I remember right that's what he said, if i find the thread I'll post the link for you

Whitfield over on www.Zuwharrie.com has a whole bunch of info on doing this.  He made himself a 4" lift using a similar method and a friend of his did literally weld a section of another frame to the front of his Tracker.  Lotsa info over there for you.

dont know if its worth the trouble. i read whitfield's thread. he only used the donnor chassis as a jig to measure and fab his lift. im thinking that it would be simpler to just weld the donnor right under my main chassis but m still having reservations... really hope that someone can post some pics of this type of lift... if ever there was one.  ???

I think one of the Aussies made his own brackets but I don't believe he had the Calmini kit. The problem is that the diff lowering is mainly achieved by rotating the housing. The rear mount can only be lowered around 3/4" . You can only go so far before the third is pointing up too far and the CV angle starts to increase again.
