Anyone got an Intake Mod Chip?
« on: April 06, 2006, 07:53:33 PM »
Following on from the "Tornado" intake mod I thought I'd ask about Air intake mod chips.

I've just done a search on the forum and got two responses, one that they work:
   http://www.zukiworld.com/forum/index.php?topic=9534.0
and one that they don't:

The difference being that the first talks about and expensive one and the second about an eBay one.  Anyway has anyone used one?  Do they work?  What about the eBay ones?

I usually wouldn't trust something like this but I thought the "Tornado" thing would be junk and some people have said it works so I thought I'd ask.  BTW, I have the 2.0L 4cyl GV if it makes a difference.

The big thing with these is i think placing it after the MAS Air is the best right in front of the Throtle body. But on the GV the mass air is in the throtle body. Im gonna make a spacer so its behind the throtle body.

Never read such a load of rubbish in my life.  These things are a scam.  It tells lies to the ECU about the inlet air temperature, which makes the ECU add fuel.  But there's no more air, so the mixture is over-rich.  The only benefit is to the oil company profits.  Don't touch it.

If anyone says it worked for them, I'm sure it's wishful thinking.

Yeah all those devices do is make the computer throw more fuel. Seen guys slap the on the dyno and loose power. Also drivablity goes down the drain. Slap a acutaul cold air and a good exhaust and u will feel it.

What motor u got?

Thanks for the responses, I figured they would be junk but I wasn't sure, I also figured there would be a few others wanting to know the same thing.

I've been thinking about a cold air intake, or at the very least a K&N filter (with extra holes in the air box??) but I'm not quite sure yet besides I'm about to spend big money on a camera lens for my other expensive hobby so I'm sure it can wait a while.   The extra power is more needed if/when I put on bigger tyres.

I've got 2.0L 4 cyl, 4 door and it drive fine unless you want to push it and the biggest things you notice it the lack of torque at low revs.

Anyway I'm just doing lots of research so I can start to plan what I might get done, how things will fit together and to kill some time at work   :o  ;)
