What are the procomp tires like, anyone try them? I see they have a sale on till the end of march buy 3 get 1 free. Are they a good tire for the mud and off roading?

What type of wheeling will you mostly be doing? Rocks, mud, sand? Will it also be a daily driver or just a trail rig? Also how set up will you be going with your rig?

As far as ProComp tires go I only have experiance with the x-terrain. It was good off road but seemed to wear out fast. I think one of the good entry level trail tires for stock to 2" lift TracKick is the Super Swamper Radial TSL 215/85R15. It is aggressive but only 29" tall. They only cost about $90/each. I saw another tire in that price range and height at Walmart. It is called a Super Sport HT in a P235/75R15 for $88. Looks like a good tread pattern.

This is a daily driver (700kms a week) highway and city.
I am new to offroading but I think it will be mostly mud and trails, I'm in central Ontario but plan on taking it up north so mostly bush and mud.
I am thinking about the budget lift now, I think 31 x10.5 tires should be ok, I'm hoping not to have to re-gear it and stilll use it on the highway. you were answering a few questions I had about the budget lift.
What do you think of the tire size?

Are you doing the body lift part too? If you are then the 31" will fit ok. Otherwise you might need to take the knife and hammer to it. When going with 31s be care full about wheel backspacing. Even a 235 rubs the frame on the stock wheels (BS 4.25"). 2.5-3" BS is recommended for that size tire.

I had nothing but problems with the pro comp mud terrain version they made. With that said I would still probably give the Xterrains a chance. 

If your doing mostly highway driving i would opt for a less agressive cheaper tire. Gas mileage, road noise, tire wear are all thing that you should consider.

There is alot of AT type tires out there that are take off style tires from stock vehicles. Particular jeeps come with pretty decent goodyear tires that most owners are dumping at a fraction of the new cost. Toyotas seem to come standard with BFG rugged trails tires (atleast in this part of the world!)

Personally I would have two sets of tires. I would have a smaller more streatable set that will still cruise down the highway no problem. (like a BFG rugged trail or a goodyear tire) I would then try and score a set of used more agressive tires like BFG Mud terrain or something to that nature if you want to go play in the mud.

Stock steel wheels and even aftermarket wheels are pretty cheap

If you look closely you'll notice every time 4WheelFarts/ProComp has that 3 get 1 sale the prices for the tires you pay for go up a good percentage.  You might save some money, but not a lot.

I honestly prefer radial mud tires for all around use.  I just buy tires with some kind of road traction adding device (the sipes on the Interco TrXus MT's on my Ranger and the green diamonds in the High-Tec retreading MT's on the wife's GV) or buy more conventional radial muds and then sipe them myself or have a shop do it.  Mud terrain capability offroad meets wet and slick weather road traction.   Rarely do I ever have "not enough tire".

my buddy had a set of procomp m/t and after about 2 months three had holes in the sidewalls - he was not impressed with them. stick with a set of bfg's or something of the sort.

Switching to the Samurai rims(15x5.5; 3.75"bs) will keep 235's off the frame, as well as out of the inner fenders. Any wider of a wheel with the same back spacing and you'll probably need to trim the inner fender.(without a lift)
