Square driveshaft
« on: March 13, 2006, 11:18:54 PM »
I just threw together one for the rear of my Toyota.  Had only heard of people running them on the front, but I needed a new rear.

What are your guys' thoughts?

Top speed on it is 37 MPH, but I won't take it above 35.

Pictures came out real bad, but for some reason, I thought I should post it tonight.
Welded up

Painted up

Installed

It has 12" of compression and 24" of extension.  How bout that for long travel?
The large tube is 2.5" Hitch Tubing, and the smaller is 2"x2"x.25" tubing.  1/2" thick!!!

They work for low speed, it's just the
sloppy fit between the tubes makes for
some viberations

Looks a nice job. I would imagine that that sliding coupling would wear pretty quickly. Let us know how it turns out for you.

I had seen that on Extreme 4x4 the other day. They used it on one of the J**P buildups. I never heard of that before....

I've got square rock rails, and they don't vibrate, so i'm happy.

I think they'd make a great backup shaft, but i don't think it would be so great all the time, but for the front i'm sure it would be great.

I'm planning on installing 4 zirc fittings, hopefully that'll help.

Most guys seem to run em on front so if they're not in 4wd, it's nothing.
I'm worried cause this'll be my daily driver for awhile in about a month.  My current DD is about to blow, and will need rebuilding
