2wd LOW

Hey,
Could you just put your t case in 4 low and not lock the hubs in for 2wd low?  or is this a bad thing to do?   Seems alot cheaper then $110.00 for the rocky road 2 wheel low.

Thats what I do but when your with a big group it looks like you forgot to lock your hubs in. ::)

Wonder if a new small block'll lift it's front tires?

it's likely to put more stress on the drivetrain from what I understand but I don't see how it could be any worse on it than the 2wd low kit you can buy.

I am planning on getting manual hubs and I am sure going to do it... If I were you I'd do it but cautiousl for a few tries.. I don't see what can go wrong, I'm sure many people forget to lock thier hubs and do 2wd low on accident

by the way, feerocknok's toyota currently has front wheel drive low.. it's a custom rear driveshaft removal kit that he managed to make work as well as permanantly locked mile marker hubs that we permanantly locked since they were all messed up.. can't say how we did it.... it's a top secret

The owners manual says never to do it because it wears out the mechanism in the hubs or something. Its been a good few years since I read the handbook. I'll have a look tonight if |I remember.

Good lord... how much cheaper can something be??  Hell a good dinner out costs more than that.. I spend twice that on gas on a long weekend!!


For $110 and a couple hours of easy labor you can shift back and forth between 2 and 4 low without getting out of the cab.. no extra wear and tear on your cv's and axles, and front diff (not that it is much wear and tear...lol, but hey....)

I can't understand how $110 bucks is anything but cheap....  maybe it's just me...

for a kid going to school and making less then 10$ an hour, paying for insurance and car payments, 110$ is a lot lol.

How about a twin stick  ;D  I'm working on the
SYE of coarse, and found that there is a way to
get a twin stick to work, it does require removing
the T-case, as there is a detent ball that locks the
Low gears out until the case has been shifted into
4WD, but the same applies to the 2 wheel low range
kit, it replaces the shift rod with one that has a second
notch that allows the 4wd gear to be put into neutral.

I just need to source the two lever boot for the inside,
Ohh and this eliminates the bending and extending and
poor fit of the T-case levers with a body lift, so now there
is no reason to not want a body lift, unless you just are
opposed to a slightly higher COG and bigger tires   ;D

HA HA That's funny...Sky's 2" lift works good,and easy to put on...If you got the mounts....

That's alright, on a recent trail ride with a decent-sized group, I was running the Goblin in 2lo and did everything the other rigs did until I got to a short steep climb. I couldn't make it up. It was then that I discovered the right front hub was stuck in the free position and hadn't locked. I had done the entire ride to that point in 2lo 2wd and never noticed anything wrong, even crawling through the rock garden and easily keeping up with all the other rigs in the group! A few smacks with a big hammer knocked the mechanism loose and it locked in, then I rebuilt the hub later...

sure the kit seems better and so does the twin stick thing.. well, they are better. but with manual hubs,  you are just turning the front axle shaft inside of the hub if it's unlocked.. I don't see what it would hurt.. I don't know. seems fine to me, but there is definately a chance that I am wrong. don't know how good of a chance it is either.. no idea

i have a kick azz twin stick ( dual shifter)  all ready avalible. it wasnt advertised on the board much because i didnt want to wizz somebody off ,who was doing the same thing .   there workin awsome !!! it is a true twin/ 2 levers / positive shifts  hi/lo    2/4 wd   stan
