WHICH 33 inch tires?
« on: February 25, 2005, 01:43:20 AM »
I'm going to make the move ass soon as I have the money for it, but what 33" tires should I go to?

  • Goodyear Wrangler MT/R's in 33 X 12.50
  • BFG Mud Terrains in 33 X 10.50 or 12.50
  • Super Swamper TSL in 33 X 10.50 or 12.50
  • Super Swamper Boggers in 33 X 10.50 or 12.50
  • Something else?

The 10.50's look real good, because I wouldn't have to buy wider rims.  Opinions?

You said you've got 8" wide wheels, didn't ya? You shouldn't need a wider rim for just 12.5's.

Oh, and Boggers for sure! ;D

Yeah, I've GOT MTR's now, BUT to go to 33 X 12.50's, the manufacturer says 10" rims - that's another $200 to $300.  And they're NOT very good on ice and snow.  I may get my 31's siped.

I would do Swamper TSL, I have had boggers and they don't do well in the snow.  They let you slide sidways on off camber sections. ;D

I am running 33x12.50 mt sidewinders
run well smoth and can be balanced no shaking
the snow not so good they will go anywere in the snow but on hard pack and ice the green light must be on in the dash. they are great in the mud and stay on top
on hard smooth rock ,if you air down they are not bad.
I love the wide tire..    but the 33" part what ever width your pick you will never go back.

I think any Man. Is going to 'request' a 10"rim  for a 12.50. But I know alot of people running them on 8". I think that is what Hagen was running before the Krawlers (35x12.50 MTR on 15X8)

I have not had much experiance on the ice and snow with my MTR' s :'( I bet siping would help alot)

i ran 31x13.5 TSL SX on an 8 inch rim and had no problems with the extra higth u should have no problem with a 33x12.5 on an 8" rim and if i have to recomend any swamper it would be the IROC it far out performs all other eccept boggers and boggers can't compare to the ride u get on the street from th IROC. sorry i've fallen in love with these tires the r so smopoth and pull so hard through every offroad terain i have put them in. if u use ur rig on road i would say NO BOGGERS. they r so rough that it out wieghs the usefulness offroad. check out the IROCS.

Hey Bob, I run the 33-13.5 Swampers on
8" wide by 2.5 backspace rims, no problems,
I think a little narrower rim keeps the bead
from blowing under low pressures

I like dayton timberline, conforms to rocky terrain better as it's a bit softer then swampers, I had a swamper aired all the way down one time and the stupid thing wouldnt go flat.... never again

Well I'll throw in another option just to make your decision even more difficult.  I have Kumho Venture MT's on my toyota.  I love these tires, most people think they go better than the BFG MT's.  They don't do bad on hard pack snow, they do real good it deep snow and good in mud too.  The little bit I've run them on rocks they do good too.  The tread is nice and soft so they bite well.  I've run mine 10-15k miles and they are hardly worn.  Check them out on my toyota here http://www.cardomain.com/member_pages/view_page.pl?page_id=397976
You can buy them from www.tirerack.com too

Bob, I run 33x 12.5 MTR's on the wifes TJ with 8" rims and they work great! Balanced easily and ride nice. A friend ran 35" MTR's on 10" rims and went to beadlocks after losing three beads on two wheeling trips. Just my .02. I'm surprised you want to get away from MTR's, don't like them?
