help-shifter too short

help-shifter too short

put on 3" calmini body llift with 1" coil spacers.  everthing is great except my gear shiift is alll sunk down.   i can still change gears, but they don't seem to be in the same place.  you gotta really jerk it down and over to get into reverse.  reverse work just fine a nd  do does every other gear, but they just dont feel like they are in the same place as before.  do they make an extension?

Some people just weld in the extra length.
Calmini Suggest you turn the shifter around and heat and bend to fit.

Yes, weld in a 3" extension at the base of the shifter. It puts it back in the stock spot and keeps it from hitting the edges of the hole. I know Heather/Nate have pics of extended shifters around here somewhere.

I did a 2" body and I heated it and bent it forward just a bit. You can and should remove the shifter off the truck first cause if not you'll melt your inner boot and chances are that dirt will get in and ... well you know the aftermath.

One thing also I found made a hugh differance is changing the stock "hard" rubber boot to basically any leather shift boot. It makes the shift a lot smoother.

With the extension you don't need to change your shifter boot, because the shifter then moves in the same way as stock.

I cut and extended mine 3", had to remove the internal boot from the gear shifter and extend the cut in the transfer outer one to get it stay in gear when the trucklet was flexing about.

Other than that no problems ;D

Heres where I cut my gear shifter, done the transfer about the same height.



Edit: I'd forgoten what it looked like with carpet in it  :D

Yeah, I just yanked it out when I bought my Tracker to avoid that problem altogether. :)

i just ground a gash with a grinder in the front of it..about 2/3 way through. bent it up so it was farther to the front and then wedled mine :P

A friend of ours made the floor opening larger and made a new console out of diamond plate.  Turned out great.

With 2" body I didn't bother to extend the shifter.. so even witht he boot pushed to the floor (not clipped into the console) it was still stiff and hard. So I changed it to the leather one and it is night an day for me. I recommend it even if you are stock. that hard rubber boot just sucks. I Think...thats me though

i have a 4 1/2" custum body lift. i had to straighten out the shift and used the top part of another shift and weled it on. here is a bad pic
