rear suspension on gv
« on: February 01, 2006, 07:22:43 PM »
does anyone know what it would involve to swap the 5 link on a GV to a 3 link from a trackick?

that lateral bar as I think it's called is a pain.. it's the flaw of 5 link. A friend of mine gave me an idea that would involve getting rid of the lateral bar and putting a link from the frame to the diff to eliminate this problem and still keep the axle from going from side to side, said he saw it on buggies.

please let me know what you think, a pic or two of a trackick 3 link would be nice, thanks

can some one find some picks of just a GV chassie without a body?  it kinda sounds like the wrong way to go.  if i'm thinking correctly the 5 link(4 link with panhard i would think?)  would out travel a trac/kick 3 link if you where going to modify it.   which it sounds like you are :D

Yea, I hope to start modifying it soon. the panard bar I guess is what I was calling the lateral bar..  it's the horizontal bar behind the axle. The reason I think it's a bad set up is that once I get it having a ton of up and down travel it will go from side to side as it goes up and down.. the idea of making a link to replace this bar is a good way to go, I'll try posting a pic of my suspension in a minute if I can find one

this is the only pic I have of my rear suspension for now, I took it to show some of my underbody damage. I am pretty sure the bottom links are identical to a trackick. the only difference is the horizontal link behind the axle and the upper links as opposed to an A frame like top link that the trackick has as far as I know.. I can't figure out why they went to five link from 3 link.. baffles me

I'll soon get a pic of it that actually shows more than barely 2 of the links
