Drivetrain VIbration after suspension swap
« on: January 27, 2006, 10:17:23 PM »
Hi there,

I finally got rid of the terrible homemade SPOA that was on my Sammy when i bought it.  I replaced it with a RRO jp-eater spring under supreme kit.  Everything is great except i have a new vibration when i let up on the gas while driving.

It happens as I go from accelerating or coasting to engine braking....the second the engine starts to brake i get a harsh/loud vibration through the body.

I went from a 6" lift to a 5" lift so i cant imagine that the drive shafts need spacers.

DOes anyone have any ideas?

thanks
Chris

why? were  they loose? that could be the problem also if that was loose... could be bad u joints also.. if all that checks out.. i'd look at shimming the rear diff a bit..

Oops,

The installation instructions for the RRO kit says go back in a few days and tighten the u-bolts......They are not loose as far as i can tell.

did your drive shaft fall out of its slip joint when you did the conversion?

a mate had his drive shaft slip out un-noticed, and when installed back, the uni joint yokes were a couple of splines off, and was close to what you describe.

if its not that, the your uni angles at the transfer and diff are unequal.

Ok, Got it fixed,

It was a bad diff angle like you suspected.

Runs great now, the new springs are a huge improvement over the stock springs.

Nothing can fix the short wheel base low weight problems with ride quality, but my tires can ride up and over large bumps now without ramming  the whole body upwards.

Ride is still stiff but more comtrollable, much greater articulation than stock of course.

Thanks for all your help
