SAMMY WITH A TRUNK LID?
« on: March 03, 2005, 06:54:07 PM »
Just checkin for interest or lack of, I saw a sammy with one of thoe fiberglass caps(has back window & trunk) I was told you can't get them any more the company went under. Anyways I thought of making a mold and building one. Is there much demand for one of these or bad idea ???

I'm on the fence as I drive a tin top, but think the glass top looks pretty cool 8)
I'm a bodyman who lives at a lake (fix boats the odd time ;D so the top would not be very difficult to make.
When this thing hits 88 MPH your gonna see some serious sh!t (hahaha)

Well, I was actually planning on making my own, but in a different sort of way.  I was just gonna cut-to-fit a fiberglass tonneau from a small pickup to put on the back of my Sammi.  No mold or anything.  But if you make one, i'll definetly part with a couple $$ to save my self the trouble of fitting it all up.  So, Git 'er done man!

I actually ordered one of these tops a few years ago.  It was on backorder for a couple of months, then I was told that the manufacturer was not going to make any more.

I would be interested, if it was like to original
ask me about GonZookin!

If I had the skills and tools to do something like this that I wanted, I would sure do it.  If you had a decent product and found sources for the window and hardware, I'm sure you could sell them on Ebay and several other places for a good price. The one below sold (on Ebay) for $900 about a month ago. You sell a few  for anything approaching that kind of price, that should help take care of the work put into the mold, etc. (& maybe make it possible to sell a few to the guys on the BBS for a good deal!  ;D ) I would think that once you got the first few knocked-out, it would become profitable pretty quickly, but I'm sure you'd have a better idea of that than I would. Might as well put your skills to use! Something to think about... Good luck!

does any one know the original maker fo these, I don't want to step on any toes if they are still available( copy right or patents?) the one I make will look almost identical, have one near by for measurements, if it's good to go I'll start in April right after I do my lift kit(been itching for 4 months to start it, not enough hours in the day :)

If you can make one for a Tracker/Sidekick, I would buy it.  I have been tossing around that idea for a while, but I don't have the skills or tools to do something like that.

Please keep us informed.
