Any of you running the Hi-9.  http://www.truehi9.com/  He is from my area and I have seen it Good strong product.  Didn't realize anyone was running a Ford 9" in a tracker.   I thought it would be overkill.

I was beaking rear shafts on a regular basis when I had my stocl rear end wirh a 4:1, 5.83's and 33's. The stock shafts just could not hold up to my abuse. A friend fornd me a used Currie Ford 9" ready to go (locked, alloy 31spline shafts, reinforced etc...)besides me matching the gearing. We got that sucker in there and I have not had to think about blowing a shaft sine then ;). It may seem like crazy overkill but many people think I'm nuts for building a sidekick ::) Not to mention it will have plenty of strength to grow the Kick over the next few years. :)

How much do you have to shorten it to fit it under the kick?  Or is there something that has the right dimensions?

My Currie was built for a Jeep Widetrack width, which is 1.5" Narrower that a stock Kick axle, So I added 1.5" spacers on each side to make it 1.5" wider than stock.

This looks very interesting, guys.

I had actually considered looking up a D30 from a CJ and usinga  D35 I have laying in the back yard. I already have a couple of D30 housings, but they are left side diffs.

I also have a 9" from an unknown year Bronco laying in a yard a few miles from here. Worth the though.  hhmmmmmmmmm....

CJ's are typically 53" WMS? ... and a D30 isn't any stronger than the stock zuk stuff.

A furd 9 is a decent choice for a rear, if you're looking for an up front mate for it, then a D44 would be good. Getting gears to match front/rear may be the limiter ...

the bobtail broncos are a little wider than a kick around 2" if i remember correctly . the best thing about a 9" is parts availability & after market / beef up parts ,plus you have a huge selection of gear choices. i'm running a 72 bronco rear 6.50 gears & spool with 28 spline .this winter i'm going with a fullsize bronco rear with 31 spline axles  so it should be bomb proof ;D  stan

Well all this talk of 9" rear ends got me searching. I searched the local classifieds and I picked up a used ford 9" out of a 1964 lincoln (so the story goes) from this super cool old guy in Escondido california.  He has already pulled it apart cleaned and painted everything..  It's 28 spline 5 on 5.5. It's 57" form flange to flange so once the axles and and everything is mounted I am figureing about 61 " wide. I got the Ford 9" and a Hawaiian surf company 6'6" surfboard for 100 bucks.. Gotta love old surfer hotrod dudes!
