Front Wheel bearing

Hey Guys,
I'm just wondering how long and how much $$$ it would cost me to put new wheelbearings in the front of my sidekick.  Is it common for these to go on sidekicks?(243,000km)?

from my own personal experience with front wheel bearings, it seems to me that some track/kicks eat them left and right and some don't. Silver will be on his 4 set! :o But the Goblin is still on his originals with more miles...

Front wheel bearings cost about $45 each around here, plus you might want new seals which would only be around $10 each. Take your time and pack plenty of grease in each bearing. As for how long it takes, if this is the first time you've ever done one, plan on a couple hours...

I have to take apart my wheel bareing just about every time i go wheeling.  It is not very fun.  get a good manual with some instructions.   There a thses little screws(philips) that are going to really piss you off after you strip them out, so take your time on them.  I had luck useing a impact driver(a special screw driver you hit with a hammer) on them breaking them loose.  after that it isn't that bad as long as you don't mind lots of grease.

do some searches and you should find more about this and replaceing the screws with allen heads i think.

Beware that the axle nuts are...round. 

Need a special socket with pins on it to remove them.  I couldn't find the right one, so I took a Ford 4x4 impact socket, removed 2 pins, and whacked it with a sledgehammer about 50 times to get two pins to the correct diameter. 

The passenger side wouldn't move at all with a big impact in reverse, but tightening it first broke it free and it came loose. Just repacked mine, haven't put the new ones on yet. 

If repacking, clean all old grease out with brake cleaner and then thoroughly stuff grease through the rollers.   

BTW, if you're working from the Haynes manual, they show the steps for Samurai wheel bearings.  If you have a Sidekick, remove the locking hub body before looking for the snap ring they tell you to remove first...oops.
