In the mud, no birds
« on: November 19, 2003, 12:48:20 PM »
Well the zuke got some off roading with the cooper tires and I am pleased to say that even though they aren't true mudder tires, the rig did well at camp and to the gamelands. ;D

On the other hand, yours truly missed every bird (except a wounded shot) but wreacked havoc on leaves, tree limbs, and of course, the sky. >:(

COme to find out.......stupid me, I grabbed a box of Sellier and Bellot 7 1/2 shot (affectionately known as "commie ammo" by my fellow sportsmen) instead of my usual pheasant load, Winchester super X high brass 6 shot.  To make matters worse, the birds were flushing close and the modified choke left me wondering if I had a bent barrel or something.  I normally use IC in close quarters but I figured in open field, we'd get some longer shots.  Little did I know.
???
Thankfully, one of my fellow sportsmen DID have high brass shot and managed to take the bird whose tail feathers I blew off with my puny 7 1/2 shot.
He was using 5 shot high brass Remingtons.
The Zuke is on its way out.  Getting a vehicle that will behave and be supported by the dealer.

I use the Wal-Mart cheap 4 Case box, it's like $15
and works fine in the Clays. I also use my Riot Shotty
with the 18" barrel, nice pattern for Skeet  ;)

I need to get a long barrel for my Mossberg 500
the range master don't like the short shotty, I'm not
sure why.

Better luck next time

I have a Mossy 830, you know, with the overbore (10 ga) and the 3.5" magnum loads.  Parkarized finish and poly stock.  The quintessential turkey gun.

Had it for 3 years now.  Never put a single shot down it.  Sad, huh?

Meanwhile, my AK-47 (milled reciever, not the stamped AKM junk) sees a lot more shooting.

Hey, shooting trees and branches is still a lot more fun that not at all.

You sure its an 830?  I only knew of the 835.

used to have one, but I got rid of it due to jamming and the fact it would simply not pattern steel shot consistently.  It also shot 5 inches high with a 3.5 turkey load at 40 yards.
THe jamming was caused by the shell stops being too sharp and "peeling" the shells, leaving the slivers on top of the bold which screwed up the bold release.

Now I use a benelli, my spagetti gun and I have no function problems.

My bad.  It's an 835.  Shows you how much it's been out of the case.

I bought Mossy cuz they make mil-spec.  I have bought a pistol grip stock with shot holder in the butt stock, 24" slug barrel, mag extension, side shot carrier and laser sight.  I haven't installed them.

I was robbed 3 years ago and my guns stolen (all semi-auto rifles, 3 being pre-ban assault type).  HE even stole my folding stock 10/22 *you bastard!*  It was a supposed "friend".

Long story short, I got each and every one of them back, and he went to jail.  The 835 was a temporary fix for home protection, and I got it for a song new.  Sorry you had problems with yours.  I have 2 buddies with them and they love them.  They don't use the 3.5", as they say it hurts.  But they like to brag that they can.

Now I just need to kill a few gobbles with it.

My Italian stallion shotgun is the Nova pump, but I would love an autoloader!

Buddy has 835 like mine and he's had jamming probs since day one. ???
He uses his Ithaca for pretty much everything, including goose.
