i got water in my manaul tranny and i cant get it out, i've changed the oil 4 times and it is still feezing solid every morning, also what weight oil do you use i've was told and am using 80w90 gear oil, is that the right stuff,

after i get it dryed up i really got to water proof it better

Been there, rusted that!  
We had to tear ours apart, swab it out and start over.

no no dont say that , thats not the right answer, there got  to be a way to get the damn water out

drain it when the trans is warm or hot,
these trannys don't work too hard so I
don't know how hot it could get, but this
is to get the most oil out.

Now fill it with strait 40 or 50W and a quart
of Marvel Mystery Oil, put in the quart of MM
Oil first, then fill with the other, drive for 1 day
like normal, to work or where ever, then drain
and refill with gear oil. check again before putting
in Synthetic Oil so you don't waste your money.

BTW the MM Oil is a gum solvent oil, gets rid of
the gummy oil water crap in the tranny.

Check the breather tube is on and up high too.

I just put a quart of regular moter oil in it fill it to the top with diesel fuel put the x-fer case in neutral With the tires blocked parking brake on, run it up to 1500 to 2000 rpms going through the gears a couple of times and then shut it off and drain it real good for a couple of hours, and never run a trans with out some kind of lubricant in it even in neutral the gears are still spinning in it unless you keep the clutch in!

hey thanks for all the ideas, where do you get that mystery oil stuff, i live in canda, near detroit, i ve never heard of it before, and also if i fill it up with desiel feul it wont hurt anything, also i just fill it to the fill plug right? not to the top of the tranny, right

Darn good idea!  Fill it to the brim.  That should displace most of the moisture!

Don't fill it through the shifter hole.  The shifter is an off set shifter.  The hole doesn't go directly into the trans like the T-case does.

Lil_truck - thats a good point. When you say it freezes solid, do you mean the lever? We had a couple of guys over here had problems because the boot round the lever was split (the one underneath the floor) and water got in there. When it froze the gear lever wouldn't move. Replacing the boot is a b*tch as you can only buy them with the lever. Draining the oil probably won't get rid of water there.

Mine was missing the zip tie that holds the boot to the trans! but I caught it early by fixing the broken shifter bolt.

I think Pep Boys has Marvel Oil, I don't know where in Canada
you could find it. JC Whitney could get it to you, and Wal-Mart
has it too, Marvel Air Tool Oil is the same I think, it should work
too

why does the boot only come with the lever dang mines all messed up i was hoping to fix it cheap lol

The way I fixed mine was to get a bike intertube, and cut about a 4 inch section out of it.

Cut the old boot out slide the tube down the shaft and zip tided it to the base.  Then push the top down so that it ballons out a little in the middle and zip down the top.  I then used eletrical tape to seal the top.

I check it every now and then to make sure it still holding.

If anyone else has a better fix I'd like to know.
