SJ410 F10A engine
« on: May 04, 2023, 02:28:01 AM »
i was wondering if anyone could help me out with a few questions. i have a 1983 sj410 and have not had a suzuki before. the previous owner installed a tachometer on the dash and the red line was set to 4000 rpm. i have been driving it to work and when i am going around 80 km an hour im already well within range of 4000 rpm. i looked up specs on the engine and it looks like max torque is around 3500 rpm and max hp is measured at 5500 rpm. does this mean that i can drive at engine speeds of 5500 rpm safely? ive never had a high rpm engine and am just used to typical engine rpms . any help would be appreciated.

thanks

I'd say you're safe up to around 6500 rpm, but, that said, there's not much point in taking it over 5500, you'll be on the "back side" of the power curve - as a general rule, Suzuki engines thrive on rpms and will very happily run all day long at what would be considered high rpms on a detroit built motor.
