Hello!
I just recently bought my first Suzuki's, so I thought I would join this forum to try to get some help with it.
First, I will describe my cars so you have an idea what I am talking about.
I bought two old SideTracks for $700, one for parts and one to fix up.
The fixer-upper is a 1996 Pontiac Sunrunner (A Canada-only model), with the 16V engine, 5-speed manual, four-wheel-drive, and is a two-door hardtop convertible. It is not currently running, and is at about 240000km.
The parts car is a 1996 or 1997 4-door Suzuki Sidekick, with the 16V, 4-speed auto, and four-wheel drive. Apparently it was running when it was parked (due to rust, most likely), and is at about 170000km
The objective here is to get the Sunrunner to roadworthy condition without spending much money, and then perhaps add some mild off-road modifications, like some larger tires, skidplates, and possibly a body lift and winch.
The first job I need to do is fix the Sunrunner's leaky gas tank. I was planning on simply swapping in the one from my parts car, but it turns out the 4-door's gas tank is larger, and may not fit.
I removed the Sunrunner's tank this afternoon, and was surprised to find that the doodads on top of the tank look somewhat different from the ones on my spare, and I found a couple problems with the hoses.
So, to put my first two questions concisely:
1. Is it possible to swap in the 4-door gas tank into the 2-door body?
2. It looks like some of the steel fuel lines that are on top of the tank are rusted through (Perhaps all the leak there is) What is the cheapest way to replace them?
Thanks for any help you can offer. I will probably have more questions later, but first I want to get the battery charged and the fuel tank fixed and filled.
