Pressured washed my 16v engine and got rough idle. They say not to for obvious reason... but I had so much oil residue I took a chance anyways.. and sure thing it ran rough after.
So I made paper towel mini tubes and stuck them down in the holes to dry out the socket holes (with the spark plugs still in there)... did this a couple times... runs great now!



I also took of my distributor cap and scratched the corrosion off the contacts.

Thought this might help anyone that made the same mistake. I have read many other forums where the track kick owner spent lots of money trying to fix their engine after washing it. Just get the water out of the spark plug holes.

I'd say you should consider yourself lucky, water in the plug wells is only one of many complications that can result from a high pressure engine wash.  I know of instances where water has been forced into sensors destroying them.

A spray-on degreaser - I use HS Purple Blaster (and I strongly suggest you avoid getting it on your skin), a stiff brush and a garden hose.

I pressure wash my engines all the time (I hate working on a dirty engine, when I have to work on it). Just gotta be careful on where you spray the water.

I'm like you, I hate working on a dirty engine - I live in a dusty climate, and even when there's no oil for it to stick to, there is dust every where - but, my experience is, don't use a pressure washer.

I have two Suzukis with J20 engines - one is a 98 SQ series Grand Vitara which has never given me any trouble to restart after an engine wash (with the garden hose), the other is an 05 JB series, on which I have washed the engine once (with the same garden hose) and which gave me no ends of issues just to get it started and running properly (moisture in the plug tubes).
