No power
« on: January 09, 2004, 09:49:11 AM »
My tracker has like no power, and now its shifting really hard, feels like its almsot running on 3 cylinders. I don't know what it is. Its a 1995 with the 16 valve if that helps. I'm going to have to bring it some where and see if I can pull any codes. Any help is appreciated. Thanks Andrew

Its just no power anywhere, all through the rpm range. I just changed the fuel filter. Less than 50 miles on that. I'm going to pull the injectors and check the resistance in the injectors and see if thats ok. Also check the fuel pressure in the system and the pressure regulator.

dont bother with the injectors, they'll be ok.  Fuel pressure is a maybe, but first you should check for trouble codes.

If you have a manual for it, there's a way to get the trouble codes without haveing to pay a shop 80+bucks.
I had a lack of power (missing four pistons) but I adjusted the valves and ended up having two exhuast valves not closing completely..Now it runs like New. or almost new.

I do haev the manual I guess I should read up on it. I just did the head on it about 20k ago so I don't think thats it .If it was a valve adjustment problem it would probably be more noticeable because the 16 valve is an interference motor. Time to do some studyign.

Stu brought up a good point, possibly a clogged cat. Who knows. Plenty of flow out the tail pipe though.

Ive had a plugged cat before. It felt like enough exhaust was comming out of the pipe at idle but when you give it gas it would just bog and sputter. I had to put it in 1st gear and idle home. You can unbolt the cat move it over and wire it up out of the way and take it for a spin.

Later,
Bill
