Hello Zukiworld. I thought I would put my latest project up for others to see. I'm putting a Volkswagen 1.9 turbo diesel in a 87 samurai. List of mods prior to engine swap are
YJ spring conversion
2 inch yj springs
Toyota axle up front
Rock assault Toyota rear axle
5.29 gears with a spool in the rear
Side kick power steering
 OTR steering
4-1 gears in case
EOS t-case cradle
I was going to run the samurai trans with an acme adaptor but I don't think the 190mm clutch will handle the power and torque coming from the ALH. I found a 1984 Toyota Supra trans at the local junk yard and found it has a higher over drive than the same year truck trans and you can bolt a 22r bell housing right to it. When I looked at getting the adaptor from acme I noticed they don't use any dowel pins  on either side and only 4 of the 5 bell housing bolts on the motor. Plus it costs 600 bucks. I figured I can do it better. So I did. Here's what the samurai looks like now and the adaptor. The adaptor use's all 5 bell housing bolts and the bottom 2 are down pins with threads in them to bolt from the engine toward the trans.

Today I got the engine out and pressure washed the engine bay before the rain showed up to stop me. After the rain got here I went in the shop and put the adaptor on the diesel and mated the engine and trans together.

I'm going to turn it up some for sure.  I might turn it up more if I decide to run a different turbo. As of now the plan is to run the stock turbo but I might try and modify a BRM turbo to fit because it's turned up and the ALH turbo hangs down. I sat the motor and trans in to see what clearance looks like and the answer is bad. I knew the tunnel would need to be opened up but it looks like I'm going to have to relocate the steering box to the outside of the frame.  Also it looks like the factory frame mounts have to go unless I use a remote oil filter and BRM turbo.

Finally got the parts and clear weather to work on my samurai some more. Went to power steering from a Toyota 4 runner to get the steering box on the out side of the frame.

Made a super short jack shaft out of a Toyota CV drive shaft. It's not plug and play I had to ream out the holes for the U joint because the CV shaft uses a slightly smaller U joint but after that it worked great. Now on to motor mounts and trans mount.

At first that was a no. I was just going to do a cowl hood but then I took the intake off and put a low profile oil cap on and it closes. I'm going to drop the motor a 1/2 inch to help a little.  I was planing to do a custom intake so I'm just going to make it low profile then the hood should close just fine.

In Japanese, they are usually referred to as bushi. According to translator William Scott Wilson: "In Chinese, the character 侍 was originally a verb meaning "to wait upon", "accompany persons" in the upper ranks of society, and this is also true of the original term in Japanese, saburau.
