I have a 1987 Samurai Tin Top with a Roadmaster Stowmaster Tow Bar on the front and a Smittybilt vault in the back so I'm carrying some extra weight. I installed the complete OME spring and shock kit from Rocky Road and it made a world of difference in the ride quality. I use it mainly on paved roads with some mild off roading while hunting.

I also installed the 3" drop Pitman and Steering Stabilizer bracket for it from Low Range along with the OME steering stabilizer. It was by far the most difficult part of the installation as the OME stabilizer is large in diameter and required modification to the plastic drip pan. Plus the original Pitman was a bear to get off.

I've bought another Tin Top - a 1986 and I intend to put the full OME Spring & Shock kit on it too. My question is - do I really need the 3" drop Pitman? I'm tempted to keep the standard Pitman and maybe use a smaller diameter steering stabilizer.

Has anyone tried the OME kit without the drop Pitman? I've seen some great posts out there - especially from Jonny Rash.

Thanks!!

Per our PM discussion: Yes, you can run the OME springs without any steering correction aka a drop pitman arm. You will just experience more bumpsteer. I ran the OME springs without a drop pitman for over 10 years.

I just remembered that this Samurai does not have a dropped pitman arm.  It has the Rocky Road Deaver springs, which are similar to the OME springs in lift and design.

you did not say if you added extra weight, if no added weight yes you will need drop pitman arm (3 inch)
because you will get bump steer upgrade to ome stabil. oem not enough if you did add extra weight you
might be able to squeak by without drop pitman arm (more weight more spring preload less steering linkage angle) but if dd pay the extra and get pitman arm way better road manners.
