Harbor Freight Winch Mount
« on: June 06, 2015, 12:03:01 PM »
Anyone mount a winch to the front of their Tracker with an HF Winch mount?  If so, any pictures would be appreciated.

I have not, but the reviews on them indicate those winch mounts are an excellent price point for the bang for buck you get.  Heavy plate, good for even the larger winches.  How they can make something that heavy, then ship it half way around the world AND then sell it for what they sell those for defies production economy.  Same with their 3 ton floor jacks.

Are you fabricating a new bumper to incorporate the wench plate into or do you intend to incorporate the wench plate into the factory bumper in some fashion?

Shapeshifter bought an AFN winch mount that he incorporated into his factory bumper and retained the stock bumper skin on his truck.  He mounted a #5,000 Badland winch on it and swapped out the steel cable for a longer piece of synthetic rope.  I think the synthetic rope provides him 65 feet of rope where as the steel cable that came with the winch only had like fifty feet of cable on it.

If you intended to mount a small winch, you could probably make the Harbor Freight winch plate work with some modifications/ additional fabrication.  If you were going to mount a full size winch, probably not.  You would probably have to design a more open winch set-up simply because of size, something along the lines of beagle-t's bumper he just mad.  He built a bumper "around" the winch mount plate.

Both of them had their builds on here (until the recent data loss), but both of these trucks are on this thread towards the bottom.

Have not made up my mind on which way to go yet.  Saw the price, and felt that it's hard to buy the steel for that price.  Just thought I would throw it out there for discussion to wee what other have done.

This system works perfect. Protects the winch & gets the weight back.

That's nicely done - I especially like the fact that you have the weight well back, and the pull is directly in line with the frame rails.
