1.3L Carb to 1.6L EFI Swap
« on: October 31, 2015, 08:47:55 AM »
Hey everyone. I'm new to the forum here and fairly new with Suzukis for the most part. Have a very experienced mechanical background tho. I currently have a 1985 Samurai with the 1.3L engine with a carb. I bought a 1992 Sidekick with the 1.6L engine with EFI. I have pulled the engine out of the sidekick. I know I am going to have to pull the engine and cab harness as well. Does anyone know what sort of complications I may run into in this swap. I've done reading online and found that I may need an adapter plate for my samurai transmission and a new engine mount. Other then that I can not find much information on what problems I might run into. Also I am going to rebuild the 1.6L before dropping it in to the Samurai. I do live in Canada. Does anyone know if there is a distributor that sells a rebuild kit in Canada. No luck finding one so far. Thanks.

If you aren't running a lift then you will need to modify the 1.3 pan and the oil pick up pipe, most people cut and shut the two pipes. On my conversion I cut off the part of the 1.6 pipe that goes into the oil pump, slipped it over the end of the 1.3 pipe and then welded it in place. I then bent the pipe to fit on the 1.6 engine and drilled and tapped one of the main bearing caps to hold it in place using the original tab.
