Timing question on 1.6 16 valve
« on: July 24, 2015, 07:08:01 PM »
Ok.replaced the head gasket on this 1.6 16v.Got everything back together and won't crank.I am pretty sure that everything went back exactly as it was when I took it apart. The cam "E" near teeth was at 12.So was the crank mark.
In order to get the disty to the 1 o'clock position,I had to turn the crank 360 deg.Now the cam "E" is at 6 o'clock.I removed the valve cover to check that #1 closed(loose). While I was at it ,I checked my valve lash again(it was fine)Does this sound correct or am I Fubar?

Did you at any time remove the distributor?

The distributor is the only thing that I didn't mark when I removed it.I marked the crank and cam cog with the timing belt on before I removed the belt.I never turned the crank or moved car with the head off.I re-installed the belt matching all marks so the crank/cam timing shouldn't have changed.
