Need Advice with new sami..
« on: November 18, 2012, 07:51:16 AM »
Newbie here from Calif. Happy Thanksgiving Everyone !!!  Sorry for the long story here but I'm clueless on this one.

Have a 1986 Sami, it's stock.  It is my winter project.  Well, it was running fine, and does most of the time. But, a week ago it just stalled out when I pulled into work. Wouldn't start so I parked it and went into work for about 5 hours. When I came out, it started and ran fine all the way home.

I drove it for about 5-6 more days, then it did the same thing.... Stalled, no go...  ???   It was dark, so I pushed it into a parking spot. I tried starting again for about 10 minutes, pumping the gas pedal I notice it started leaking fuel behind the passenger front tire.  Blondie here didn't have a flash light with her, so I could tell where the leak was from.

At this point, I call AAA and got a tow home.   It sat for about a week until yesterday.... It started with no problem, let it idle to operating temperature, no leaks at the fuel pump, carb or fuel filter. No leaks at all!!! Drove it for about 10-15 miles no problems!

I'm completely lost on the cause.  Today it gets a new fuel filter, clean carb, plugs, etc.

Can anyone send me in the right direction on the cause... I'm an old Chevy/Ford truck girl... this little Sami is driving me crazy!

BTW.... Yes, it's got gas!  LOL  :P

Just going by the info you posted, assuming its carbureted , and maybe has an electric fuel pump?
I would suspect that some kind of debis are getting into the needle and seat causing it to loose seal and flood over.
Replacing he fuel filter may fix it. Or it may take some more extreme measures . Even up to & including removing the fuel tank and thuroghly cleaning it out.
