I don't know there is not any mention of gearing that 1300 4-banger with a weber carb will struggle hard with anything beyond a 29" tire without gearing plus it is really hard on the clutch too say goodbye to 5th gear at least from the picture it has been used fairly hard the rattle can spray paint usually isnt a good sign the problem is the samurai is 27 years old now and will probably need have components such as the front axle rebuilt if you are not willing to dig into it turn some wrenches then I would pass on it

After looking at the picture closer albeit a little small and out of focus it looks like a tintop that somebody cut the top of off I would walk away from it

Yes you can run 33" or 34" tires with the 1300cc engine but you will need to gear it at the diffs and likely the t-case either way gearing or no gearing you will have a top speed of around 55 mph that's the reality of it the 1300 engine is a good engine but it is far from a powerhouse and barely moves a stock samurai at hwy speeds again this samurai is over 25 years old and the engine if original is probably pretty tired from the pics it still looks like a tin top that had the too cut off walk away from this one

havent decided yet it just seems to me to get a sammi trail ready it going to take alot more i was just offered it as a trade and i didnt want to make a mistake thats why im asking you vets about the sammi i like them they are unique but it just sounds like i should keep my jeep and put money into that since its already trail worthy thank you for the input and answers

Nothing wrong with Jeeps.  I like them, but I prefer Samurais.   :)  I've had a Samurai since 1988, so they are in my blood.

talked to the owner a little more he said the tires are about 29" about 50% is this thing going to perform well i have watched some wheeling videos but they all look fairly modified i am comparing it to a few 4 cyl jeep wranglers i have wheeled with before they have 33 with 4.10 gears and do fine if i do get it i want to do a LCOG ( low center of gravity) build i love the look and function another question is in a lot of these videos i see them very tippy are they more so than a jeep thank you for all the input

No more tippy than a jeep but they have a shorter wheelbase so you have to drive accordingly

i can get toyota axles for fairly cheap around here and there is a few built tans./t- case on my local crailglist for pretty reasonable i can pick all this up for less than what i would pay for a slip yoke and gears for my jeep i understand it will take awhile to get it to that stage but i will be using for a wheeler now not a daily driver unless i just feel like driving her a couple days here and there do you guys still think i should walk away from what i read it sounds like i can get most of the upgrade parts fairly cheap and i like the fact that the samurai is a unique rig around here ( mostly jeep and toyota )
