Tcase problem after body lift?
« on: October 24, 2012, 08:15:07 PM »
Got 2" body lift installed on my '01 GV. My 4wd shifter is of course lower but it seems to work fine although i gotta force it to 2wd all the way back. Recently got it on a lift and had a guy running it on drive and my passenger side shaft was turning although it was in 2wd mode and the hubs were in free position(got warn manual locking hubs installed). Is it a hub installed wrong or the 4wd shifter not going all the way back? Any tips?

Thanks

If the ps shaft was turning and the tire wasn't, then the hub is working correctly.  It would seem that you were still in 4wd.  You may have to enlarge the hole for shifter (so it can go back further), or bend the shift lever forward (don't try to bend it in transfer case).  That is a problem with body lifts, the shift patterns are larger than some openings or boots (because transfer case is further from the body).

Is it hard to remove the tcase shifter? Do i have to drop the tcase or can i take it out from the inside of the car?

Thanks

With the body lift it will be easier.  From under the vehicle, reach up around the transfer case and locate the shift lever.  You will feel the TC housing and then withing the housing a rounded collar (goes around the shift lever) that is spring loaded outward.  Push down on the collar with your fingers on both sides and turn counter clockwise about 1/8 turn.  The collar should then readily pop-up so you can remove shift lever.  Lift it straight up and out.  Take care that you do not pull out the shift sheet (about 1 1/4" half cup that shifter rides in to swivel for shifting), it can be slid back in place if it comes out, just don't loose it.
I used a torch to heat & bend a shift lever.  They do not bend easily.
