my bumper build half way done
« on: October 17, 2012, 07:33:01 PM »
i got a winch for doing some work for a guy instead of paying me he gave me a new winch. i was fine with that because it wasnt much work and new i was gonging to get a winch anyway. its a 8k csi. i had never heard of the brand but i fugured what the heck it was bacically free. i got it a wile ago and finally decided to start figuring out the bumper and winch mount and this is what i came up with. at first it was a solid piece and then i figured why have all the metal under the grill so i cut that out. then i got it drilled and relized i didnt have a place for the fairlead. so my grandpa and i started on our own ideas and this is what he came up with so i cut it out and welded it on.

That winch mount looks heavier than my channel iron mount.  At least they wont bend and crumple up our winches if we run into freight trains.  I started by welding the mount on then the winch, and building the bumper around all that.  It looks like you made your mount higher than I did, which is good because I had trouble with approach angle onto steps and big rocks.
Hope to see your bumper soon.

i havnt had a chance to see how much it ways now that i got it on there. i got the top to holes drillied and put the bolts in and from there just built it around the frame and everything. im sure its pretty heavy though because its all 1/4in steel even the fairlead mount. ( didnt want to make the fairlead mount out of 1/4in but thats all i had)
