1988 Sami clutch problem!!! HELP
« on: October 08, 2012, 05:06:10 PM »
Alright, here's my dilemma. The clutch fork/arm that the end of the clutch cable connects to on the transmission seems to be stuck or seized and will not move but about and eighth of an inch forward. Now I KNOW that is not nearly enough to disengage the clutch to put it in gear while it is running. Before all of this, the clutch safety switch was shorting out on the clutch cable causing the cable to get extremely hot which locked the cable up. could the excessive heat on the cable transfer through the clutch arm and seize something up inside the tranny? I now have a new cable, adjusted it properly and the arm on the transmission will not move forward enough to disengage the clutch and the peddle will not go to the floor b/c of this. I don't know if this problem has occurred before but if I cannot get an answer as to what can be done to fix it, ill just have to drop the tranny and figure out why the clutch arm is not moving.

Yep, you might have to pull the trans back to inspect it the throw out bearing sliding area.

Are you sure you have a good ground connection between the battery and engine (starter)?  An overheating clutch switch should not get hot enough to ruin a clutch cable.
As said, it sounds like it could be an issue with the TO bearing slide area on the tranny snout.  So you'll have to drop the tranny, to check it out.  It could be that the slide area needs to be cleaned up and relubed, or the TO bearing could be bad and be binding.  It could also be a problem with the pressure plate on the clutch.  Could also be the shaft in the tranny is broken.  Whatever it is, once you drop the tranny, you should be able to figure it out.
