Radio/cb?
« on: October 08, 2012, 02:43:15 PM »
My console that holds my CD player above the stick, fell off while wheelin.  I would just repair what I have, but I don't want it to just fall off again, and I am in the need of a CB.  Is there a combo CD player AM/FM/CB radio?  Is there any other better thoughts or pics of something you have done?

Here's a metal radio box.  http://damngoodidea.net/store/product.php?productid=2  Looks sturdier than the original plastic and has a spot for a second 12v outlet.  You could hang a CB below it.  I don't know about CD/AM/FM/CB combos.  I'm sure someone makes them but it'll probably have compromises all around.  The more features you pack in a product, the lower the quality of each feature (usually).

The stock radio mount leave a lot to be desired on the early Samurais.  You've got to ensure that the rubber feet are fully engaged to the radio mount plate and then secure the plastic box with the little L-shaped bracket.  Easier said than done sometimes.  I have seen others that have added additonal right angle braces on the sides of the radio box to help support the radio.

I am not aware of anyone that makes a CB/AM/FM/CB.  I also wouldn't think it would work well-marginal at best.  In fact, most aftermarket radios in car stereos today have been gutted in terms of performance to allow a CD player etc.

I just added a Cobra 75 WX ST Compact/Remote Mount CB Radio.  Almost the entire CB radio is in the mike which you would have to have anyway. The CB radio would not take up space and then you could have a better selection of CD/AM/FM radio.
