Roll cage questions
« on: September 04, 2012, 08:13:21 AM »
Hi all,

My Sami build up is gettign started and I will be starting multiple threads on specific parts.  This one is about aftermarket roll cages.

First, when you put the full cage in (front to back) does it replace the hoop as the tops last bow?

Which one of them does NOT have the built in "oh Sh*t" bar welded on?  I want to keep the factor dash passanger grab handle.

I plan on replacing the factor hoop/ roll bar.  Any suggestions for my aftermarket cage?

Thanks,

Rob

It depends on which cage you buy, I had a Davesport in my SJ-410.  You could either weld onto the existing bar or you can order the full replacement.  As long as you can weld I highly recommend it.

Thanks for the reply.  Did the Davesport full cage eliminate the rear bow for the soft top or did you still need to use it?  Also, does it do away with the bars connecting the targa to the top of the windshield?

I actually never ran a full top.  :P

But the other guys who ran the full setup did not use the rear bow.

You can keep the targa bars on if you want, but I got rid of them since I already had the fold-down windshield kit.  The two Sammy's in our club bought kits and did the same.  But they put the bars back on for winter driving so the top of the doors would actually seal.

I thought it would be fun to have a custom cage that is spaced out a bit more so it runs down the original lines of the targa bar support then tucks in below the bar, or notch the targa bar to allow the tubing to go through.

If you check out our club picture site you can see the different SJ setups:
