Hagen Front-end Widening Guide
« on: April 13, 2004, 05:19:51 PM »
So I've read through the front-end IFS widening guide in the archived section, and I am kind of confused... It tells how to drill the holes in the back mount, but doesn't say anything about the front... wtf... Do you just do the same thing to the front control arm mount that the guide says to do to the back?

Also, rather than using the washers suggested in the guide, would some plate work? The only thing you'd have to change to do that is use some longer bolts, but it seems that using some 1/8-3/16" plate rather than washers would give a more solid mounting point...

Just the rear holes get re-drilled, this moves
the wheel out and front, now the front CV cups
need to be addressed, I did my CVs different than
Mike, but they work.

This is the best closeup I have of the Right side CV
cup extension, I used a piece of 3" DOM about ohh
2.5" long, cut the cup off and added it on, this won't
work for the drivers side, I had a 1" spacer made for
the Left side, I'm going to redo these but for now I
would say I got 20,000 Miles on the trucklet since I
did the mod, and about 1000 4 wheel drive miles.

So you didn't do the Explorer CV shaft deal... wasn't that the original intention of widening was to get bigger CV shafts to fit in?

Plus wouldn't it've been more convenient to do it the way the guide shows, so that CV's have the 3-bolt flange on each side?

Also, you widened the front end, did you do anything to the backend (ie: the 9" swap)?

I guess, it's been over 2 years since I did this mod.
Really it allows 33s with out much rubbing, if you want
35s you need to move the foot well back, Explorer
CVs are Mazda, so if you want, go dig up some parts
and swap out, I like the trucklet Suzuki, if I start blowing
parts every time I go wheeling, I guess I'll build some
stronger parts, but for now it's all holding together fine,
I have had minimal destruction of stock parts, and I know
how to trial fix it anyhow.

Ford 9in rear, I don't need it yet, someday maybe. I'm
working on ideas and stuff to solve the problems while
keeping the trucklet Suzuki

the only stock Samurai mechanical parts left on my Sami are the flanges on my Kicker3, and those are not even the flanges that came with the Sami ;D
EDIT: I guess they are not stock either, I had to modify them for the Toyota driveshafts
