lockers + ice?
« on: May 02, 2004, 03:30:50 PM »
thinking of getting some lockright lockers for the rear in a month or so and have a few Qs...

if i get now can i change gears next year and use the same lockers?

if i get the lockright ones what is going to happen to my light car on an icy highway curve at 40 mph when one wheel slips?  ganna lock up and push me straight over the curve? ???

where is the best place ($$$) to get them and am i looking for a geo rear or is there another one i am looking for that fits my 90 tracker?

thanks

Hey, just look at it this way: If the locker does force you off the road, it will allow you to drive through the snow and right back onto the road :)

If your only getting for the rear, you only need one! Yes you can change gears and still keep your locker.

Just drive like your on ice, carefully, and you should be fine.

How does an auto locker in the front affect steering? Does it handle the same, or is there added resistance? What about an LSD?

An LSD is a good locker but if your front housing and third member are cast it will through tne pinion through the side of the carrier. good web site. www.k9rdj.co.uk
take a look good info on locker problems with the front ends.

The problem with lockers is not the front, unless
you are in 4WD, the problem is the rear will spin
both tires on ice, and very easily I might add, which
will put you into a spin very quickly in a Short Wheelbase
SideKick or Sammy.

In 4WD the front wants to plow straight and not turn
on ice, snow or mud.
