Thinking of puting a throttle body spacer in my 91 Sidekick...has anyone done it and did it make as much a difference as some advertising has said...."extra 5 miles per gallon and horse power boost"
I'm working on this -- although like everything else I do, not too quickly
It should make a difference, but it's tough to predict what the difference will be. Most everything I've read points to the idea that a spacer will move the power curve up the RPM range. You may see increased HP and TQ, but it will be at a higher RPM and you may see reduced TQ at lower RPM. Apparently, drag racers were big into spacers; I guess so that they could control traction off the line and have a little extra HP later on once they were hooked up.
Anyway, on a TBI unit like mine, I think it may make a difference and if it gives me some more HP at a higher RPM that might be good for some highway driving -- lots of mights, ifs, and maybes.
I'm working on replacing my clutch fan with an electric right now, but if no "repairs" come along, I'll get back to the spacer. I have one made from wood, but I may look for some phenolic material to use.
Let us know if you try one.
